OtoKeyboard Guide: Create Workflows by Combining Shortcuts (Chained Action)
This feature allows you to take your individual shortcuts and run them one after another in a specific order with defined delays. In short, it’s like setting up a row of dominoes; you tap the first one, and OtoKeyboard handles the rest.
When to Use “Chained Action”?
While the possibilities are limited only by your imagination, here are a few common scenarios:
- Morning Routine: With a single hotkey, launch your web browser, email client, favorite news sites, and work application simultaneously.
- Gaming Automation: Execute a specific skill combination (combo) in a game flawlessly, with precise delays between each ability.
- Reporting and Data Entry: Combine a series of shortcuts that copy data from one program, switch to another, paste the data, press the
{enter}key, and move to the next field.
How to Set Up a Chained Action
- Open the Setup Window: On the main screen, click the “⚡ Extra Features” button and select “Chained Action Setup” from the menu.
- Step 1: Select and Order Your Shortcuts:
- In the list that appears, you will see all the shortcuts saved in your current profile. You must select at least two shortcuts to create a chain.
- Check the boxes next to the shortcuts in the order you want them to run. The very first shortcut you select will become the trigger for the entire chain. Your selection order will be numbered in the “Order” column.
- Step 2: Set the Delays:
- You need to specify how long to wait between actions. You have two options:
- Fixed Delay: To use the same waiting time between all steps, select this option and enter the value in seconds.
- Custom Delay: If you want to set a different delay for each step, choose this option and enter the values individually in the “Delay (s)” column in the list.
- You need to specify how long to wait between actions. You have two options:
- Step 3: Set the Loop Count:
- You can choose how many times the chain you’ve created will repeat. You can have it repeat a specific number of times or set it to “Infinite” to loop until you stop it.
- Save the Chain:
- After configuring all the settings, click the “Save Chain” button to complete the process. Now, when you press the first shortcut you designated as the trigger, the entire chain will begin to run.
Managing and Monitoring Your Chains
- Saved Chains: On the right side of the setup window, you can see all the chains you have previously saved. You can easily load their settings for editing by clicking on one.
- Tracking with the HUD: While a chain is running, an information panel (HUD) will appear in the corner of your screen (if enabled in settings). This panel shows which step of the chain is currently active (
Chain: 2/5) and the current loop count (Loop: 1/10) in real-time. - Stopping a Chain: To stop a running chain, simply press the trigger hotkey again.
Important Note: If you delete any shortcut that is part of a chain, that chain becomes invalid and will be automatically deleted by the program. This is a safety mechanism to prevent potential errors.
The “Chained Action” feature acts like an orchestra conductor for all of OtoKeyboard’s other features, giving you the power to complete time-consuming and complex tasks with a single keystroke.
